The Angola Prison Rodeo is back

One of fall’s main attractions is the Angola Prison Rodeo. Started more than 40 years ago by a handful of rodeo-loving inmates, the event has become a business with its very own stadium, drawing record-breaking crowds each year. During the rodeo, riders compete bareback, in wild horse races and more. The event starts Sunday at the Louisiana State Penitentiary and will be hosted every Sunday in October. Tickets are $15. Gates open at 9 a.m. The rodeo begins at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the event cover rodeo expenses and supplement the Louisiana State Penitentiary’s inmate welfare fund, which provides educational and recreational supplies for inmates.
