An Oscar-nominated actor steps out of the comic book world for this new film. Robert Downey Jr. relinquishes the Iron Man suit to star in The Judge, a new film about big city lawyer Hank Palmer, who returns to his childhood home where his father, the town’s judge (played by Robert Duvall), is suspected of murder. David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) directs from a script by Nick Schenk and Bill Dubuque. Vera Farmiga, Dax Shepard and Vincent D’Onofrio co-star. Though Downey Jr. is a tremendous actor outside of the Marvel Comics universe (see Chaplin and Tropic Thunder for examples of his range), The Judge didn’t get the best reception when it opened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Some critics were turned off by the “Oscar bait” feel of the film. Rated R. View the trailer below.
