It’s not always easy to find family-friendly flicks amid the loud summer blockbusters. Each Wednesday in June, the Manship Theatre is hosting Kids Rule the Movies, a matinee of fun animated features for $4, which includes snacks. The series starts June 6 with An American Tail. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Bee Movie and Open Season are set for the following weeks. See shawcenter.org for more.
And to see a beloved children’s tale in live-action form, check out Playmakers’ production of Pippi Longstocking at the Reilly Theatre on LSU’s campus June 15-24 at 7 p.m. each evening.
June is your last chance to see the 50 gorgeous Japanese prints at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, part of the exhibit The Floating World: Ukiyo-e Prints from the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. The prints offer detailed depictions of Japanese life from 1600 to 1868, and many were used as advertisements in the theater and entertainment districts of Japan. The exhibit ends June 24.
