Stroubes

It’s very rare that I come across a cocktail that actually comes with a “limit of 3 per guest” warning, so when I spotted this at Stroubes, I obviously felt obligated to investigate. Stroubes has quite a large selection of cocktails on their menu (so many that I could write several posts), but two specifically caught my eye – The Pom Zombie (limit of 3 per guest) and the Double-Berry Kir Royale (bubbles).

As I mentioned, I started with The Pom Zombie. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve indulged in many drinks that should have had a limit, but that usually only happened in college when I was drinking for quantity and not quality. Seeing as how Stroubes is an upscale seafood and steak house and not a hole-in-the-wall college bar, I was intrigued by this hand grenade style cocktail.

This is one of those “everything but the kitchen sink” type drinks, incorporating about 8 ingredients. The problem with this kind of cocktail is that the mixers camouflage all the liquor, making it seem refreshing, not high in alcohol content. It ended up being a very fruity and “drinkable” option that went down in record time (hello, drink limit). Would I order this again? Maybe while laying by a pool but probably not at Stroubes, especially considering all the other delicious looking options on the menu.

Next up was the Double-Berry Kir Royale. I went from one extreme to the next in terms of ingredients, bringing it down to only 2. This wonderfully fizzy concoction is a mix of Prosecco and blackberry/raspberry liqueur. I’ve said this before, but I’m a sucker for anything with bubbles. This is the kind of drink I want while enjoying a nice seafood dinner. Plus, I could have more than one without feeling scandalous.

I loved the bar area and felt like it would be a great place to enjoy an afternoon happy hour cocktail, but next time maybe one without a limit.
