Well Suited: ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’

After reading all of your suggestions for new themes for my Well Suited posts, I am taking on the challenge of creating them all! (Truthfully, A Clockwork Orange may be a stretch, but I will do my best.)

First up is Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The Little Black Dress is an iconic piece in any woman’s wardrobe, but Holly Golightly took it to a new level in the film. The character showed that wearing costume jewelry at breakfast is perfectly normal. Isn’t that the way it should be?

Finding this dress at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago was a pleasant surprise! It is a good summer weight and has a flirty, flippy skirt to boot. A sheath shape generally works with any body type and can be dressed up or down by changing up accessories. A casual belt and sandals would easily dress down this look. Still, Holly Golightly was never one for dressing down—even in her pajamas or singing on her fire escape.

To channel my inner Holly, I pulled out my favorite statement necklace. Cleopatra would have killed for this piece! Though it doesn’t have her traditional diamonds and pearls, a modern version of her character might wear something like this. I kept my hair casual with a high ponytail, sans tiara. Fun shoes are a must with a little black dress.

How would you make Holly Golightly’s look your own?
