Contrasting couture

This year has already been a whirlwind for Maddie Louviere, and fashion’s busiest season is just now upon her. The college senior has recently participated in both the Hemline Fashion Show—where she won top honors—and NOLA Fashion Week back in the spring, where she showcased a 14-look collection based on the contradictions of ballerinas.

This idea of dissimilarity is hugely influential in Maddie’s life and her inspiration as a whole.

“My aesthetic as a designer is based off of contrast, which comes from my relationship with my twin,” she explains. “We are completely different in so many ways, but we fit together perfectly.”

Louviere uses this idea to create her dramatic looks, which combine a feminine style with more edgy components.

“My favorite thing about fashion is that it tells a story, and it can tell so much about a person,” she says. “Fashion really is such a beautiful thing, not only to create, but also to admire.”

Louviere is working on a new collection she hopes will be ready for spring or summer of 2015.
