Natural style

Virginia Archer is a bit of a social butterfly, which makes her the perfect fit as one of the first people to greet you when stopping by Magpie Cafe on Perkins Road. She’s one of the cafe’s resident “coffee geeks,” perfecting the art of slow, single-cup brews of espressos and specialty coffees.

The popular coffee shop and cafe attracts a clientele as of-the-moment as its local, organic ingredients and progressive brewing methods.

And the employees reflect that in their trendy style as well.

“The motto of Magpie and any who work there is ‘Do what you love,'” Archer says. “We’re a passionate, creative bunch, which means we’re committed to embracing and expressing ourselves in fun and authentic ways.”

When Archer, a 28-year-old from Meridian, Mississippi, isn’t performing her duties as coffee geek at Magpie, she’s busy with the creative consulting company she co-founded, All Color Productions.

The business took her to Mendocino, California, this summer to work on a few projects. Along the way, Archer used the opportunity to check out the coffee, restaurant and farm-to-table scene, “soaking up some major farm-to-table knowledge to bring back with us to Louisiana.”

Of course, she picked up some stylish pieces along the way, too, like turquoise jewelry in Arizona, copper rings in Colorado and earthy-chic denim in California. Yes, her interest in locally sourced foods spills over into locally sourced designs. “Fashion is just more fun that way,” she says.

“I have a theory that wearing boots of any kind encourages adventure. Edit [in Acadian Village Shopping Center] has the most versatile, classic shoe collection I’ve seen in town for this fall.”
