Ogden Park Prowl celebrates local artists

More than 70 artists will be on display Saturday during the second Ogden Park Prowl. The event features local artists, musicians, chefs and more setting up in front yards of the Ogden Park neighborhood in the Mid City Arts District.

The event started last year when the Ogden Park Civic Association piggybacked onto a garage sale-like event Elevator Projects put on at The Radio Bar. Members of the arts collective offered up works at reduced prices in an attempt to clear out their studio spaces.

While the neighborhood event was well attended, association president Robin Neil says it is small compared to what’s happening this weekend.

“We probably have 150-200% more activities going on this year,” Neil says. “We’ll have a pop-up soul kitchen, a Cajun kitchen, lots of music and all different kinds of art forms this year that we may not have had last year. We have a lot of great artists that live in the neighborhood. Our idea was why don’t we tap into it and allow people to see the art, buy the art and see where it’s created.”

The prowl, 1 p.m.-6 p.m., will span around eight blocks between Government and North streets. A full list of artists, attractions and locations is available at ogdenparkprowl.org. Elevator Projects will again have its art sale in Radio Bar during the prowl.

Neil hopes the event will become the biggest neighborhood arts festival in the state, and with growth and time, it very well could be. Neil is optimistic because of the talent as well as the neighborhood’s vibe.

“The more it builds, the more people will view Mid City and our neighborhood as truly an arts-focused community,” she says. “An arts festival fits perfectly with our neighborhood. We are very tight knit and consider ourselves the best eight blocks in Baton Rouge.”
