Tabasco packaging to broadcast La. wetlands appeal

The McIlhenny Co. says it's going to use its iconic Tabasco hot sauce to take the plight of Louisiana's coastal crisis worldwide. Chairman and CEO Paul McIlhenny says Tabasco product boxes will soon include the message: "Tabasco is hot on America's WETLAND and fired up to help save it." Coined by the America's Wetland Foundation, the message will let Tabasco lovers know that Louisiana's wetlands are disappearing at the rate of a football field per hour, and will direct them to the AWF website to learn how they can help save it. "To lose what you find in this region would be a catastrophe of international proportions," McIlhenny—also an AWF board member—told reporters at the company's Avery Island headquarters on Wednesday. "Today, as millions of cartons of our Tabasco product leave Avery Island, we will send a message of urgency that the clock is ticking and everyone should be part of the movement to save America's wetland." The company sells Tabasco in 166 countries, packaging in 22 languages.
