Looking for a stylish way to spend a dog day afternoon with your friends and their furry friends?
This Saturday, Spay Baton Rouge hosts an Oscar-themed fashion show fundraiser for pups and their people inside Harley Davidson Baton Rouge.
After providing proof of rabies vaccination at the registration table, two- and four-legged guests walk the red carpet provided by Celtic Media and strike a pose for the puparazzi of Crawford Photography.
Master of Ceremonies Petz Plaza's Michael Hackett will emcee the fashion show, which open to any guests willing to strut their mutts and compete for a coveted Pawscar. Celebrity judges DJs Murphy, Sam, and Jodi of 96.1 The River will select the Best Dressed, Most Original Outfit and Best (Owner/Dog) Dynamic Duo.
“It's a fun event in an air-conditioned environment, “ says Noelle Harper, Spay Baton Rouge's fundraising committee chair. “People can bring their dogs out and be as creative as they'd like with costumes—either store-bought or homemade.”
Izzo's Illegal Burritos will cater the mid-day soiree. In addition, all canine paw-tygoers will leave with a swag bag of treats from Marsh Dog and Petz Plaza.
Other event sponsors include Fleming's, Franklin Press, La Madeleine, Mansurs on the Boulevard, Oh Baby, Silver Screen Rentals, Jeanne Schoeffler and Vanishing Forests Digital Media.
Proceeds benefit Spay Baton Rouge. Since 2004, the local non-profit has spayed/neutered more than 10,000 cats and dogs, who would otherwise be reproducing uncontrollably. The organization has made those services affordable and accessible to all East Baton Rouge Parish pet owners by offering low-cost services to low-income families and caretakers of feral cat colonies. Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic and a network of local vets around the city host Spay Days specifically for Spay Baton Rouge's pre-qualified clients.
By halting uncontrolled breeding, the program reduces the number of homeless animals, the city's euthanasia rate and the incidence of pet starvation, disease, abuse and neglect.
Harleywood tickets are $15 per person and $10 per dog. Pre-registration is encouraged; but, walk-ups are welcome. Registration runs from 11 a.m. until the fashion show begins at noon.

Bad Guys, Good Eats! Pop-Up Dinner at Restaurant IPO
Chef and 225 contributor Jay D. Ducote and Chef Chris Wadsworth hosted the Bad Guys, Good Eats! dinner at Restaurant IPO Wednesday night. The dinner was themed around famous movie villains, pairing cocktails and ales with plates of food resembling famous baddies like The Joker, Lord Voldemort, Hannibal Lector, and many others. The highlights of the night were the three middle courses—a black bean soup laced with blood sausage to signify Lord Voldemort, a brace of coneys on black eyed peas resembling Sauron, and lamb medallions atop a fava bean puree to pay homage to the famous favorite of Hannibal Lector.
