News Alert: Blue Cross to administer state health plans

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has been selected to administer the major health plans that provide coverage for state government employees, retirees, and their dependents, the Office of Group Benefits announced today. The Division of Administration says the move will save the state more than $20 million per year, and says plan members this month began paying lower monthly premiums thanks to the streamlining effort. As part of a reorganization plan, OGB will slash 177 positions from its current roster of 327 positions. The announcement does not say how many actual layoffs will be required. Blue Cross's role as third-party administrator begins Jan. 1.
