Pass the Whiskey
Veteran actors Willem Dafoe and Matt Dillon were spotted recently shooting scenes on Horace Street off Perkins Road near the Garden District for the Cole Hauser-directed crime drama Whiskey Bay. The production, which our source says is based on a true police story from the 1980s, is filming at Angola as well, but will continue shooting in the Baton Rouge area for the rest of the month. This is Hauser’s first feature film as a director. The actor is better known for character roles in Good Will Hunting, ER and The Break-Up.
Dubsteppin', cow-tippin'
Fans of dubstep were surprised to see one of its pioneers, Bassnectar, booked a show in Baton Rouge Sept. 29 at a venue most hadn’t heard of—Sugarcane Village. It’s listed at 14200 River Road, just up from the new L’Auberge Casino. From the road, it looks more sugarcane than village, leaving fans wondering if this would be an impromptu outdoor concert. A bassnectar.net moderator confirmed in early August, “It’s a new space … According to the promoter, a? new sign is going up in the next few weeks and it is set off the road a bit.” So that will explain the strobe lights and heavy bass you are sure to witness near Gardere that weekend.

Bad Guys, Good Eats! Pop-Up Dinner at Restaurant IPO
Chef and 225 contributor Jay D. Ducote and Chef Chris Wadsworth hosted the Bad Guys, Good Eats! dinner at Restaurant IPO Wednesday night. The dinner was themed around famous movie villains, pairing cocktails and ales with plates of food resembling famous baddies like The Joker, Lord Voldemort, Hannibal Lector, and many others. The highlights of the night were the three middle courses—a black bean soup laced with blood sausage to signify Lord Voldemort, a brace of coneys on black eyed peas resembling Sauron, and lamb medallions atop a fava bean puree to pay homage to the famous favorite of Hannibal Lector.
