
Originally opened in the 1970s, Bistro Byronz was named after the owner's son Byron, who was receiving medical treatment in Texas at the time. To give the name a little flair, owner Mike Kantrow changed the moniker from “Byron's” to “Byronz”.
When Kantrow's children reopened the restaurant on Government Street in 2006, they gave it a modern look and name by adding “Bistro.” The “Byronz” part still had strong name recognition.
So, how is the name pronounced? There is no right answer, owner Emelie Kantrow Alton admits. The question comes up often. “Bye-runs or Bye-rones are the most popular versions,” she says. “The people who come in are much more firm in their pronunciation than we are.” bistrobyronz.com

Bad Guys, Good Eats! Pop-Up Dinner at Restaurant IPO
Chef and 225 contributor Jay D. Ducote and Chef Chris Wadsworth hosted the Bad Guys, Good Eats! dinner at Restaurant IPO Wednesday night. The dinner was themed around famous movie villains, pairing cocktails and ales with plates of food resembling famous baddies like The Joker, Lord Voldemort, Hannibal Lector, and many others. The highlights of the night were the three middle courses—a black bean soup laced with blood sausage to signify Lord Voldemort, a brace of coneys on black eyed peas resembling Sauron, and lamb medallions atop a fava bean puree to pay homage to the famous favorite of Hannibal Lector.
