Micah Nickens and Andi Eaton – People To Watch 2013

Part social club and salon, part art gallery and intimate listening room, raconteur stylist Micah Nickens’ new Gaudet Bros. is poised to become a hub of community and creativity in the heart of the Garden District this spring. And there’s a lounge for shaves and a wet bar, too.

With a modular space designed by architect Clarke Gernon—even the cutting stations can be moved and combined into an industrial sculpture—Nickens’ salon will soon host quarterly art shows while booking music and fashion events and pop-up restaurants in between.

“Baton Rouge is an open slate that is still growing,” Nickens says. “I like that more creative people are collaborating, and I want to help make those connections. Why go be a part of something somewhere else?”

Transforming the former Tiger District warehouse and old Stabbed in the Art space won’t be easy, but Nickens has plenty of help from Andi Eaton, his partner and the regional manager of Paris Parker Salons and Spas. Three years ago, Eaton’s brainchild was New Orleans Fashion Week—now growing with more than 50 events annually. Her latest project is Hazel & Florange, a clothing line and boutique that will offer Eaton’s casual Louisiana-made dresses, plus vintage threads and select items from her network of Southern designers. Next door, Nickens’ new space will provide her the venue to bring more cutting-edge style to a city whose attitude about fashion could use a makeover.

“I love Baton Rouge, but right now, honestly, it’s more about fashion as entertainment,” Eaton says. “My intent is never to be that. I want to help good designers grow their businesses.” gaudetbros.com, hazelandflorange.com, ouiwegirl.com
