Tiger Deaux-nuts moving to Mid City

Tiger Deaux-nuts’ gourmet flavors will call Mid City home in late April. Owner Jeff Herman says his business on Jones Creek Road is moving to the Goodwood Shopping Center by Reginelli’s and MJ’s Café in the former location of Hemingway’s, a cigar and pipe tobacco shop, at 684 Jefferson Highway.

Herman says he hopes the store will be open around Easter.

The location will be open six-to-seven days a week for pick-up orders and some room for dining in. He is also thinking about expanding the menu to offer savory donut options, biscuits, breakfast pastries and lunch.

“I have a lot of ideas floating around,” he says. “The main thing is that the gourmet donuts will be going in full force. We’ll have lots of different creations, and the menu will be refreshed.”

Herman, an LSU grad, says his current location—which has been open since 2012—is poorly located and the Mid City move “makes sense.”

“I’ve had lots of people in established neighborhoods like the Garden District, Bocage and Broadmoor come to my shop, and I understand it’s a far drive,” he says. “These are the neighborhoods that appreciate the creativity and fun idea behind the concept I had. [Mid City] is a part of town people come to on a more regular basis, and there are no donut shops around there. I’m very excited.”

Unlike his Jones Creek location, which is open Friday-Sunday, the new location will be a “full-time” venture, he says, and could serve as a base for expansion.

“I’m hoping to reach a wider variety of people and establishing roots there,” he says. “This is going to be my real home location, my first main store. From there, I see myself branching out to different parts of town.”
