About three weeks ago, Gourmet Girls owner Kathy Mangham had some leftover dough and decided to make some king cake cupcakes for the first time.
Later that afternoon, she brought a batch to Garden District Coffee, which sells a few other cupcakes she makes.
“I brought them at 4 p.m., and by 8 p.m., they were gone,” she says. “I was like, ‘Wait what?’ Sometimes, I’ll make a dozen cupcakes, and they’ll be there for maybe three days. They’re fresh, but it usually takes a while for them to sell out. This was surprising.”
