Halloween happenings

If your family is looking for some not-so-scary Halloween fun, then BREC has the perfect activities planned for you. For the 14th year, the Baton Rouge Zoo will be hosting Boo at the Zoo on Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26. The festivities will include trick-or-treating, a hay maze, train rides, candy, and of course lots of animals! The decorations are always amazing for this event and the activities and atmosphere are merry, not scary. The trick or treating is for children ages 12 and under, and normal admission applies to the zoo, which means members of Friends of the Zoo are admitted free.

Another great alternative is going on at BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center. On Oct. 10, 17 and 24, a “haunted hike” is planned for young children and their families. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes and bring flashlights. Participants will learn about night time creatures such as insects, snakes, rats and other creepy crawly critters! Wear your bug spray and comfy shoes and come ready for a great time. The trails are open for hikers from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and the entrance fee is $4 per person. Of course, membership has its privileges, so members get in free. Happy Halloween!
