Election leftovers

I see you. You're still in election mode and rightfully so with a few runoffs yet to settle. But take off your Uncle Sam top hat and put down your noisemakers. It's time to get serious about those yard signs. They're green, blue, yellow, red, white, orange, etc., and they have to go somewhere.

Question: What am I supposed to do with these leftover election yard signs?

Answer: Don't put them in the gray wheely bin!

OK, so I don't actually have any of these leftover yard signs as I like to keep my yard as Swiss-like as possible. But I know. Your heart is saddened just like mine. Bob Dillemuth with the recycling office says the plastic most of those yard signs are made of is not recyclable. Whoa there. Don't go crying into your coffee just yet. Simply because it's not recyclable doesn't mean it's not reusable! Hoooohoooo. That's right. Save those signs and use them when you have a garage sale. Or put a call in to your favorite nonprofit and see if they have any need for them. Give them a quick once-over with some old paint and you have a sparkling new canvas for the kiddies. Clean 'em off and bring 'em inside as placemats or cut them down for coasters. Size them down, fold them up and slide them under wobbly tables. Use them as shields in your next water balloon war. With a little bit of ingenuity you could make a Boasso bustier for Halloween. You get the idea. Get creative. Feel free to share your own ideas in the comments.

Dillemuth says any signs that are printed on cardboard or paperboard or regular paper can go into your gray wheely bin with your other recyclables. So can all that campaign material that's been overloading your mailbox. It's ripe for recycling. Cast a vote for the planet and dispose of your campaign paraphernalia responsibly. I know. I'm a corny little tree-hugging dork.

Was there ever a municipal rail system, or streetcars in Baton Rouge?

as someone whose yard plays host to a constant flow of yardsigns through the course of the year, these are all excellent ideas. I like to keep them to use for other signs for parties and the like.

my next group comes in tuesday. Kopplin for Congress!!! since we have the congressional primaries in like 3 weeks ughhhhh.
