Twine hosts ‘Summer Sushi Soiree’ this Friday
Newly opened speciality food and meat market Twine will hold its Summer Sushi Soiree on Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m.
The event will include Twine owner and chef Steve Diehl preparing sushi rolls right at the table, according to the Eventbrite page. Other planned dishes include vegetable dumplings, tuna poke, green tea tres leche cake and mochi.
Tickets are available on the Eventbrite page and are $100 per person plus a transaction fee. Twine is at 2921 Government St.

Capital Area United Way hosts ‘Books and Brews’ at The Pelican House this week
Emerging Leaders of Capital Area United Way is ready to read this Thursday, Sept. 1.
At The Pelican House, 2572 Citiplace Court, children’s books will be the entry fee to the “Books and Brews” event, 5:30-7 p.m. Capital Area United Way is looking for book donations to spread “the gift of reading with a child,” according to the Facebook event page.
School supplies are also being accepted to be distributed to schools affected by the recent flooding.
The event page says all the donated books will be placed in one of the Little Free Libraries around the 10-parish area.
Drinks and food specials will also be available. Live entertainment will be provided.
Jay Ducote, Roux 61 and Tin Roof to hold ‘Hot Chicken on a Tin Roof’ next week
Bite and Booze’s Jay Ducote is teaming up with Roux 61 Seafood & Grill and Tin Roof Brewing Company for a food event to celebrate the beginning of LSU’s football season on Friday, Sept. 9.

The event is a “Nashville Hot Chicken Pop-Up,” according to the Facebook event page. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. at Tin Roof, 1624 Wyoming St., with plates of hot chicken, Southern greens plus macaroni and cheese for $10. Plates will be offered until they sell out.
Music will be provided by Joey Holaway. Twenty percent of food and beer purchases will go to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank as part of flood relief efforts.
Attendees younger than 21 are welcome to attend but will not be allowed inside the brewery.
