That’s the spirit: A candy corn cocktail for Halloween

During the Halloween season, some people like to watch scary movies, some go to haunted houses, and some dress up in scary costumes. If you want to inspire terror in my heart, just read me the calorie count on the back of the candy corn bag.

I am one of those people who absolutely loves Halloween—maybe even more as an adult. Whether it’s Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft or Margot from The Royal Tenenbaums (in my case), you can be whomever you want for an entire night, maybe even a whole week if you play your party invite cards right. Plus, candy corn.

After eating a pound of the good stuff this year and realizing I had several more pounds to go, I had a brilliant idea: why don’t I drink the rest? If you’re like me, I end up with a crazy surplus of candy after Halloween and am always looking for a way to get rid of it. The answer was clear: candy corn-infused vodka. (Spoiler alert: if you’re my friend, there is a good chance this will be your birthday/Christmas/any holiday gift.)

The process for making candy corn vodka is not a difficult one and will be a hit at your Halloween party this year. It requires a 750 ml bottle of cheap vodka (no one will thank you for that part) and 1 cup of candy corn.

You simply dump the vodka and candy corn into an airtight container, shake and let it sit for 3-4 hours to infuse. You will then strain the candy corn out, rebottle, and chill before using. Easy enough!

The best part is that you can make all sorts of Halloween-inspired drinks. I played around and ended up with a quick, easy cocktail perfect for any Halloween bash.

Candy Corn Cocktail
2 oz. candy corn-infused vodka
.75 oz. orange liqueur
.5 oz. sweet and sour
splash of orange juice (optional)

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until chilled and strain into a glass. A fun touch is to rim the glass in crushed candy corn (but really, who has time for that).

If home Halloween parties aren’t your jam and you’re looking for a fun party, my favorite cocktail and costume spot in Baton Rouge is The Radio Bar. They have a DJ, a costume contest, and spot-on cocktails. Either way, have a happy Halloween!
