Two hot pop rock bands Phantom Planet and Paramore make roadtripping to New Orleans essential this month when they perform live at The Sugar Mill on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Jack’s Mannequin and Paper Route are openers.

The toast of indie-rockdom last year with hit album Boys and Girls in America, The Hold Steady has returned with Stay Positive. The Brooklyn band makes a welcome return to Louisiana with a show at Chelsea’s Café on Thursday, Aug. 7. Philadelphia punk-rock outfit The Loved Ones will open.

San Antonio-bred Terri Hendrix, an acoustic Americana troubadour, pulls into the Dragon Listening Room on Government Street. Hendrix is touring to promote her latest record, The Spiritual Kind, a whimsical collection of folk and country that includes a bizarre but clever reworking of L.L. Cool J’s “I Need Love.”
