Baton Rouge Gallery’s increasingly popular outdoor Movies & Music on the Lawn series continues this month with a screening of 1924’s mystery classic The Hands of Orlac, another chilling thriller in this year’s series titled dayDREAMS & nightSCREAMS.
Orlac stars Conrad Veidt as a concert pianist whose hands are severed in a railway accident. After receiving transplant hands, Orlac discovers that they belonged to the body of an executed murderer. As Orlac grows increasingly paranoid that the murderer’s hands could affect his own psyche, Orlac’s father is mysteriously killed. Now the prime suspect, Orlac must clear his name and rediscover his own sanity.
It’s one vintage silent horror movie after another with The Adventures of Prince Achmed playing September 25 at the gallery and a special Halloween showing of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari on October 30.
As usual, local bands perform a live music accompaniment to the silent films playing on the gallery’s large screen. The (New) Zeelanders will soundtrack Orlac and Caligri, and Righteous Buddha will provide the funky sounds for Prince Achmed.
Free popcorn. $5 admission for non-gallery members. batonrougegallery.org
