Notable names enshrined outside Tiger Stadium

Take a walk around the famous bronze tiger statue guarding the west side of Tiger Stadium, and you’ll notice plaques inscribed with the rosters of championship teams over the course of LSU’s illustrious history. These are some notable ones you might have missed—try and spot them next time you’re there.

Mickey Mangham
1958 National Championship

Billy Cannon is the most famous of the 1958 team, but defensive and offensive end Mickey Mangham was the man who gave us our first national title. In only his sophomore year, he helped secure the Tigers’ 12-0 record and caught the winning pass from Cannon for our 7-0 victory over Clemson.

Glenn Dorsey
2007 National Championship

Arguably the most beloved defensive tackle in LSU history, Glenn Dorsey’s name can be found on the plaque commemorating our 2007 defeat of the Ohio State Buckeyes. After leaving LSU with a bag full of trophies and 179 total tackles, he went to the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth overall draft pick.

Mike Anderson
1970 SEC Championship

In the late ’60s, Mike Anderson was an award-winning linebacker with a consensus All-American title and an SEC championship under his belt. The younger generation of Baton Rouge, though, may know him better for his eponymous seafood restaurant near campus, which has become a landmark of its own in local culture.

Ron Estay
1970 SEC Championship

Like Anderson, Ron Estay helped bring home the 1970 SEC title, but he stands out for a chillier reason: He’s the only LSU alum in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. After graduating LSU in ’72, he made the trek north and found a new home among the Canucks.

Tyrann Mathieu
2011 SEC Championship

The Honey Badger logged 77 total tackles in the 2011 regular season and took home the title of MVP in that year’s SEC Championship against the Georgia Bulldogs. He went on to play five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before inking a deal with the Houston Texans earlier this year.
