Fashion & Boutiques
Discounts on designer bags
The fun factor in your summer travel preparations goes way up when you have stylish accessories on hand. Happily, Kiki is currently offering a sale on travel accoutrements, useful whether you're bound for Biloxi or Bali. Select items marked down 30% include lightweight scarves, handbags, small leather goods, clothing and books. They're from an enticing array of designers: Rebecca Minkoff, Marc Jacobs, Oryany, Anya Hindmarch, Assouline, We Are Owls, Franco Ferrari and Nagatani, among others. The special runs through July 4.
Bridal gowns galore
Trunk shows abound for brides-to-be in the Capital City. At Gabrielle's Bride and Occasion Salon, a Lillian West trunk show begins tomorrow, and at I Do Bridal Couture, a Liancarlo trunk show is running through Sunday. Over at Blush Formal & Bridal Salon, dresses by Intuzuri Costura are on display until June 22, plus the boutique is currently running a sample sale. There's also a sale at Bridal Boutique and Bridal Boutique Off The Rack, with several trunk shows planned for later in the summer. Most bridal salons offer incentives and require appointments during trunk shows, so be sure to call ahead for details.
Health & Beauty
Summer beauty secret weapon
Thanks to Louisiana humidity, a matte complexion during the summer can seem like a fantasy. Enter powder foundation plus sunscreen, which can reduce shine and block harmful rays. One of our favorites is Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation. An antioxidant blend prevents UV damage and premature signs of aging, while other compounds brighten skin and diminish the appearance of sunspots. Find it locally—for a reasonable $15—at drugstores or Ulta.
New source for B.R. bikers
Capital City cycling aficionados have a new store to help keep them rolling. The Bicycle Shop South opened recently at 11060 Cloverland Ave., off Siegen Lane. The new location will function as a full-service shop and offer the same brands and selection of bikes as the original store, located just outside the North Gates of LSU on Highland Road.
Home & Garden
Exploring for antiques
Fabulous finds for the home are within reach—if you know where to look. The three-block Denham Springs Antique District contains a trove of shops, boutiques and art galleries. Its Main Street Commission registry lists more than 40 businesses, including Benton Brothers Antique Mall, Rusty Rooster, Serendipity in the Village, and the Korner Shoppe, among many others, along atmospheric Range Avenue. Read about more destinations for décor discovery—all just a short drive from Baton Rouge—in the June issue of inRegister here.
