On Trend: Don’t smudge

When I was little, I used to watch my mom put on lipstick in the mornings and always begged for her to put some on me. Since I was only 5 years old and couldn’t very well run errands with her while I was covered in red lipstick, my mom would roll the stick all the way down and pretend to put it on me, simply touching the metal tube to my lips. I was (and still am) pretty gullible, so it made me instantly ecstatic to “have lipstick on” just like my mom.

Now that I am much older than 5 and have makeup of my own, one of my favorite trends to follow is seasonal lipstick color. I also have my mom to thank for this, because she does the same!

This summer has welcomed several shades of orange, pink and nude. However, you never can have too many tubes of lipstick (or lip gloss, if you prefer) because even if a certain color is in style, complexion tends to dictate shade.

If you ask me: Red lips are never out of style.

Fall is quickly approaching, and in fashion, we always know what’s next. According to InStyle magazine, wine-colored lips are all the rage. So start shopping for your perfect shade of burgundy! Feel free to match it to your favorite pinot or merlot if that gives you a good starting point.

Personally, I like Covergirl, because I find that even the simple lipstick (not lip stain) lasts long. Covergirl also makes new colors every season, and usually keeps the classics. But, most importantly, I can buy Covergirl in almost any grocery store or pharmacy, and I like convenience.

Other brands to try: Revlon, Mac, Nars, Marc Jacobs
