On Trend: 2015’s signature color

Sorry Shelby, it’s neither blush nor bashful.

Every year, Pantone predicts a single color as THE color for the upcoming year. That one shade to be seen on runways across the world and in homes of the folks who can afford interior designers. What did the masterful color trending experts decree for 2015? Marsala. I had two immediate thoughts when I heard this. One: Mmmm Chicken Marsala. Why am I not eating more Chicken Marsala? Two: It’s very similar to Oxblood (which is also basically burgundy), the color everyone was in fits about in 2012, which works out pretty well for anyone who jumped on that train.

The Pantone Color Institute folks are describing Marsala as “a naturally robust and earthy wine red” that “enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability.” Really. That’s straight from the press release. I’m not sure about its ability to do all that, but this brownish red is a pretty versatile choice. It pairs perfectly with all neutrals, and can easily go beyond your wardrobe and into your makeup routine as well. Despite seeming trendy based on its name, it’s a pretty traditional color that works for every skin tone and can easily blend with every style. Preppies and private school kids have been wearing it for ages. And if you’re into holiday attire, this is a much less offensive option than head-to-toe red and green.

For your convenience, I’ve listed a handful of items for guys and gals that are great additions to any wardrobe that just happen to be in Marsala, Oxblood, Burgundy or whatever other word you choose to use. I’ll personally be buying that Madewell tee as soon as I finish this blog.
