A shoe for every personality
Ask a woman what catches her eye when checking out a guy’s style, and she might well say: his shoes. Gone are the days when you could hide your sneakers under baggy jeans or boot-cut pants. Slim pants are in, which means men’s shoes are stepping into the spotlight. Fortunately, there’s now a bevy of options for stylish shoes for a night out on the town that are much more interesting than your dad’s basic loafers. Here are a few we found around Baton Rouge.
∧ The sharp-dressed man
Monk strap shoes are having a moment but are still somewhat hard to find in the Red Stick, so there’s time to get ahead of the local curve. These shoes look best with a slim, cuffed pant without much break at the bottom. That means we’re going to see your socks, too, so make informed decisions there. And make sure to find a pair of monks that isn’t too loud—the tobacco leather on the ones pictured is subdued enough to let the double buckles shine.

∧ The outlier
For the guy who prefers dark jeans and won’t sacrifice his lumbersexual vibe during a night out, desert boots and chukkas are the way to go. These shoes, in a worn moss green, can look just as smart as a pair of bucks if you lace them up and pull your pant legs down over them. Or, leave them loose and sticking out over your pants if you are feeling rebellious and consider your statement made.

∧ The traditionalist
Sometimes, it’s best to stick with the classics. These bucks are just right for a guy who doesn’t want to appear too flashy, but does like to look put-together. The midnight navy suede makes them easy to pair with just about any pant, and the color of the rubber soles provides enough contrast so you don’t look like a square.
