Cheers: Hibiscus cocktail

April showers bring May flowers—and one of the most common flowers found in the backyards of Baton Rougeans is the beautiful (and edible) hibiscus. Long used for tea and herbal remedies in Egypt, the Caribbean and India, the gorgeous flower is preferred more for its bloom than its flavor here in the states—but that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. Still, there’s no reason to go ripping up your ornamental plants to try this cool tea cocktail—all you need is some hibiscus tea, available at Whole Foods and Vin Phat.

Ice cubes
8 ounces Hibiscus Tea
2 ounces tequila

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tea and tequila, cover, and shake to combine. Serve immediately. (Recipe courtesy marthastewart.com)
