My Style: Craig Greene, M.D.

Craig Castleman Greene, M.D., is a partner of the Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic who specializes in orthopedic trauma. Also one of Business Report’s Top Forty Under 40 winners for 2008, Dr. Greene advocates a holistic approach to both his profession and his life. When it comes to products and brands, he has a taste for the finer things; but when it comes to food, he pretty much has a taste for anything—though he’s trying to reform.

What’s your prescription for staying well?

Try to stay active mentally, physically and spiritually.

How often do you exercise?

I’m at the gym every morning at 5. I work out for about an hour and 20 minutes, five to six days a week. I do a mixture of cardio and body weights.

Is there any particular health product that you use regularly?

I have a peanut butter and mango Gladiator smoothie as I leave the gym every morning. Works for awhile, then by 10 I could eat a horse. I also take Arbonne for Men vitamins.

Who influences your personal style, or who do you look to as a guide for fashion?

Can I say I wear whatever my wife buys me? I do. I look at GQ and Men’s Health, but not to any particular person. Sometimes you see 60-year-olds and think, “Man, you should not be wearing that.” So I’m not going to pop my collar and wear a tight Izod shirt.

Favorite brand of jeans?

7 For All Mankind, Rock & Republic.

Your wife says there’s a very precise procedure for creating the ‘do…

Well, I have kind of a thick afro—you see this? I have to wear product. I wet my hair, put in American Crew gel, then mess it up. I can’t believe my wife threw me under the bus.

Your biggest fashion disaster?

Wearing white bucks with blue jeans. And a Nautica jacket (not all at the same time).

What is your biggest style splurge?

Shoes. Salvatore Ferragamo.

Favorite item in your closet?

Blue jeans.

Oldest item in your closet?

Alligator skin cowboy boots.

Any particular item you find yourself buying a lot of?

Guns and shoes.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning/evening?

Nine minutes in the morning. Fourteen in the evening.

What style products do you use devoutly?

Be Curly shampoo and conditioner by Aveda. Men’s facial wash stuff from Arbonne.

How would you describe your eating style?

Aggressive! I work out so that I can eat. But recently, I’ve put myself on a diet. No sweets, no fried foods, no carbonated drinks (as he puts down a Diet Dr. Pepper and adds, “This is the first one I’ve had in a month, seriously”). My theory is, 90% of 20-year-olds are in shape, and 10% of 40-year-olds are in shape. I’m somewhere in between, trying to hold on.
