Roundup: Arnaud’s ‘French 75’ named one of the Best Cocktail bars in America by GQ … Community Coffee set to raise prices by 10% … Local liquor store introduces online sales
Cheers to Arnaud’s: The October issue of GQ named Arnaud’s “French 75” bar No. 18 on its list of the 25 best cocktail bars in America. The French Quarter cocktail lounge was the only Louisiana establishment to make the list, with Seattle’s Zig Zag Cafe taking the top spot. GQ’s favorite at the historical New Orleans bar is Arnaud’s off-the-menu but popular rum-based Bywater cocktail. Coffee on the rise: Responding to a dramatic spike in commodity prices, Community Coffee plans to raise the price of its packaged coffee sold in grocery stores. Matt Saurage, president/CEO of Community, says the increase will apply to most every Community Coffee product. The change in pricing will occur over the next few weeks, and Saurage says it should mean a 10% increase in the price of Community products, although that percentage rise could be blunted by store promotions. Prices for drinks at CC’s Community Coffee Houses will not go up. Liquor up online: A Florida Boulevard liquor store has started taking orders online. The Beverage Store says it is the first store in Louisiana to take orders for beer, wine and spirits over the Internet. David Tolar, web content manager, says customers can read descriptions of the store’s beverages online and get recommendations, then place an order with a credit card. When customers show up, they just have to show store personnel an ID and credit card for verification to pick up their purchase. See the store’s website at TheBeverageStore.com.
