Dudley DeBosier’s partners — Chad Dudley, Steve DeBosier, and James Peltier — all graduated from LSU. They also all played a sport there, so they feel a strong connection to the university and its athletics programs.
When Dudley DeBosier was chosen as an official partner of LSU in 2015, it was so much more than a partnership. It was representative of a connection they share with each other, the champion attitude they bring to the courtroom, the dedication they bring to their team at Dudley DeBosier, and the love and loyalty they have for Baton Rouge and the entire Tiger community.
The Official Partner of LSU Athletics says they have no plans to discontinue that partnership…so with the introduction of new NIL (name, image, and likeness) agreements between businesses and college athletes, some may be wondering why Dudley DeBosier hasn’t signed any NIL deals. When asked about it, here’s what they had to say:
HAVE YOU SIGNED OR ARE YOU WORKING ON ANY NIL DEALS?
Not yet. We always have and always will support LSU Athletics. Our partnership has provided funding to the entire athletic program for years, which benefits every single athlete that steps foot on campus. That’s our goal. When it comes to signing individual deals with players, as a business, there are a lot of things to consider.
- Brand Alignment
The Dudley DeBosier Difference means a lot of things, and one of those is authenticity. When someone speaks on our behalf, they know us extremely well through personal experience and/or excellent legal representation. It is someone who can honestly speak about their interactions with us. All the people in our commercials are unpaid and actual clients who have had a positive experience with our attorneys. While there is nothing wrong with paying people to advocate on your behalf, this just isn’t on brand for us. Brand alignment is something we consider in all of our efforts.
- Brand Protection
We are very protective of our image, so we are very careful with whom we align ourselves. When we partner with someone or an organization, we look for alignment in many aspects, including interests and values. If we put our brand in the hands of a young college athlete, our brand is now aligned with their image. Having zero control over their NIL and how it can impact our brand makes us extremely vulnerable.
ARE THERE ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE YOU’D CONSIDER SIGNING A NIL DEAL?
Definitely! Another big part of our Difference is giving back. The majority of our community dollars are earmarked for our Difference Maker campaign, which recognizes and supports Difference Makers in the community through various programs such as our Leadership Academy and Difference Donation. If there was an opportunity to align with an athlete to support an amazing community initiative that they were passionate about and one that aligns with our values/mission, that would absolutely be something we’d consider.
