Baton Rouge bars roll out fall craft cocktail menus

Between pumpkin ales, spiked ciders and seasonal sangrias, the craft cocktail can sometimes get lost in the autumn booze shuffle. Next time you’re out on the town, try a seasonal cocktail at a creative bar like one of these.

Radio Bar

Ogden Park’s favorite cocktail bar rotates its menu with each season, and this year’s autumn concoctions bring together flavors of ginger, spiced orange, rye whiskey and Averna—an Italian liqueur made with herbs, roots, citrus rind and caramel. Something about relaxing with one of these drinks in the bar’s open air patio sounds like the ultimate October evening to us.

Our recommendation: Ginger Royale, a gently warming Champagne drink made with ginger liqueur, lemon and Elixir G (an all-natural ginger extract mixed with pure cane sugar and lemon).

The Chimes

Beer isn’t the only kind of adult beverage flowing at the iconic bar of The Chimes. Its featured cocktails for the season include a Kentucky Mule made with Angel’s Envy bourbon and Goslings ginger beer matched with sweeter options like the Apple Blossom, made with St. Germain and apple juice.

Our recommendation: Pecan Pie, a rich combination of Cathead Pecan vodka, Nocello (a walnut and hazelnut liqueur) and Bailey’s Irish Cream, shaken and served up in a martini glass.

Lock & Key Whiskey Bar

When temperatures get milder and sweaters start coming out of retirement, the burn of a good whiskey can be the perfect way to warm up. Swilling fine, aged whiskey amidst dark-stained wood and leather arm chairs could be your new favorite autumn pastime.

Our recommendation: Sirs Milk Punch, a creamy, house-made bourbon pumpkin milk punch. The bar traditionally crafts a new punch for each autumn.

Galatoire’s Bistro

Maybe an upscale restaurant isn’t one of the first destinations on your craft cocktail to-do list, but it probably should be. The fall drink menu at Galatoire’s features some tried-and-true flavors such as a signature Cinnamon Old Fashioned: a carefully balanced mix of Basil Hayden’s bourbon, Angostura bitters, a cinnamon-infused brown sugar simple syrup, muddled oranges and Luxardo cherries.

Our recommendation: Pregame Pimm’s Cup, a football season-friendly mixture of house-infused cucumber vodka, Pimm’s #1 liqueur, sparkling lemonade and muddled Granny Smith apple.

The Cove

The Cove’s expansive cocktail menu offers hundreds of options, with something for any mood, craving or season. For cooler weather, there’s no better destination for hot toddies than The Cove’s sidebar, where mixologists serve up specials like the Hot English Ale Flip (made by pouring a hot ale back and forth with raw eggs and sugar) or the Hot Gin Sling (a warmed combination of gin, sugar and nutmeg).

Our recommendation: Hot Buttered Rum, a thick, comforting drink made by melting butter with boiling water into a mixture of clove, cinnamon, clover honey and aged rum.
