Dine Roundup: Blue Bell is back, Java Mama comes to Baton Rouge

Blue Bell returns to Louisiana stores

Shoppers waited eagerly outside of Baton Rouge grocery stores Monday morning to buy the first half-gallons of Blue Bell ice cream on store shelves since its recall for listeria in April.

Paul Johnson, sales manager for Blue Bell in Baton Rouge, tells Daily Report the company tried to stock as many supermarkets and smaller grocery stores as possible Monday, but some stores wouldn’t get any ice cream until Tuesday.

The beloved ice cream company is stocking shelves with Dutch Chocolate, Pistachio Almond, Peppermint, Cookies and Cream, Butter Pecan, Homemade Vanilla and The Great Divide. All are available in half-gallons and pints, except Peppermint, which is only available in half-gallons. Read the full Daily Report story here.

Baton Rouge’s first Java Mama location offers unique coffee experience

Coffee shops are abundant, and many cafe owners add their own quirks to make the sit-down experience more special. But grabbing a cup of joe at Java Mama, which opened in Baton Rouge earlier this month, is an experience like no other in the Capital City.

The coffee shop combines caffeine and children—two things that normally don’t pair well, but the concept behind the La Mesa, California-based chain offers busy parents a way to relax or work while giving their kids a fun, supervised play area.

Java Mama offers gourmet coffee and drinks, healthy snacks for children and babies, fun classes for parents and their kids, and a supervised play area for children 5 years old or younger. The shop also offers reservations for private birthday parties, baby showers and similar events.

The coffee shop is at 8645 Bluebonnet Blvd. and is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
