New downtown taco bar now open in former Freshjunkie location
An upscale taco bar opened downtown yesterday at the former Freshjunkie location at 303 North Blvd. Freshjunkie owner Pat Fellows has converted the salad concept—one of two Freshjunkie locations downtown—into a taco eatery called Somos Bandidos.
Somos Bandidos builds on the Freshjunkie concept, according to Daily Report. It features fresh, natural, local and organic ingredients. Unlike Freshjunkie, which was only open for weekday lunch, however, Somos Bandidos will be open on the weekends and on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
The Freshjunkie location in Main Street Market will remain unchanged. In early 2017, Fellows plans to open a Freshjunkie location in the Southdowns Village Shopping Center on Perkins Road in the space formerly occupied by Smoothie King. Read the full story in Daily Report.

Former Stroubes executive chef to open BRQ, a new seafood and barbecue restaurant
Chef Justin Ferguson will open BRQ at 10423 Jefferson Highway sometime next spring, according to Daily Report.
“This is not your typical BBQ joint,” he says in a news release. “We are featuring regional favorites from the Carolinas, Tennessee, Texas and Missouri.”
BRQ will utilize a farm-to-table approach as much as possible, while staying true to being an authentic barbecue restaurant—meaning all meat will be smoked with applewood or hickory at BRQ, and all rubs and sauces will be made in-house. The menu will consist of prime steaks, sandwiches, salads and grilled seafood as well as shrimp and crawfish, when in season. Read the full story in Daily Report.
Barcadia now serving frozen daiquiris—and offering unlimited daiquris on gamedays
Barcadia is bringing a new daiquiri option to the North Gates area. The bar and restaurant, at 3347 Highland Road, now houses Highland Daiquiri, a bar with eight frozen daiquiri flavors. Sizes include a 20-ounce for $6, a 32-ounce for $9 and a gallon for $28.
Flavors include Barcadia Bomber, Electric Lemonade, Jungle Juice, Margarita and more. On LSU game days, customers can purchase a “$10 Game Day Daiq Cup” to purchase unlimited daiquiris, according to a press release. Tailgaters can also purchase a 20-ounce drink for $5.

Abita launches ‘The Boot,’ a beer exclusive to Louisiana
Abita Brewing Company is offering “a beer specially brewed for Louisianians and only available in the state of Louisiana,” according to a recent press release. The new beer, “The Boot,” will be available Oct. 3, and was “brewed with white wheat, oats, and barley, hopped with Hallertau Blanc and fermented with German Kolsch yeast,” according to the Abita website.
“The Boot” was Abita’s way of saying thank you to its home, the press release says, with packaging that notes it was “Brewed in the Boot for the Boot.”

Radio Bar beer tasting tonight
Head to The Radio Bar, at 3079 Government St., Sept. 28, for a “Fall Beer Tasting.” International Distributing Company will be sampling different fall beers 5-7 p.m., according to the Facebook event page.
Selections include the Weihenstephaner Oktoberfest and Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash. The event is free.
The Office holding trivia night with food, drinks next Tuesday
Prepare for “The Bar Exam,” a night of trivia, food and drinks with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services. On Tuesday, Oct. 4, The Office, at 421 Third St., will hold the event 5:30-8 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite and are $20 or $15 for students. Tables can be reserved for parties of four or less. Reservations are $80 or $60 for students. The proceeds will go toward providing legal services to low-income or the elderly affected by the flood.

Alexander’s Highland Market to hold Oktoberfest pop-up this weekend
Alexander’s Highland Market is bringing the flavors of fall to Baton Rouge with its first fall season pop-up farmers market. Oktoberfest Pop-up runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2. Vendors include Davis Farms, Bocage Honey, Mad Pickles and The Big Squeezy, according to a press release.
Junior League of Baton Rouge will offer samples of its Pecan Pie Muffins and other items featured in its River Road cookbooks. The organization is celebrating its 80th reprint of the series, along with, its charity contributions, according to the press release. Pennington Biomedical Research Center will have “healthy chermoula dip” and discuss healthy eating habits with shoppers.
