Baton Rougeans encouraged on Yelp page to nominate City Pork executive chef for national awards

Ryan André, well known in the Capital City for his unusual takes on Southern cuisine and his success as City Pork Brasserie and Bar’s executive chef, could be in the running for a James Beard award.

Each year, the James Beard Foundation, a nationally renowned culinary organization, awards national chefs and restaurants with titles from Best New Restaurant to Outstanding Pastry Chef to Best Chef by region.

A Yelp page has been encouraging Capital Area residents to nominate André for one of the awards. André qualifies for the titles of Outstanding Chef, Best Chef: South and Rising Star Chef of the Year.

Nominations can be made here after registering through the James Beard Foundation site.

From Daily Report: Freshjunkie to roll out new coffee, breakfast service downtown after CC’s closes

Freshjunkie, the downtown salad shop with locations at 303 North Blvd. and in the Main Street Market, plans to fill the void that will be created when CC’s Coffee House closes its North Boulevard location on Friday.

Freshjunkie owner Pat Fellows says his North Boulevard shop, which is adjacent to the closing CC’s, will begin serving coffee and a few breakfast items next Monday. The store will also adjust its hours of operation to accommodate the early morning crowd, opening at 7 a.m. on weekdays instead of at 10 a.m.

“It was a good opportunity for us,” Fellows says. “I got wind of CC’s closing about two weeks ago and started putting the wheels in motion.”
