Where to eat and drink during the 2016 Wearin’ of the Green Parade


Correction: This article has been changed since its original posting to update specials at Galatoire’s Bistro.

It’s doubtful you’ll score a decent spot on the Wearin’ of the Green’ Parade route this Saturday if you aren’t there to claim it by 8 a.m. Luckily, most restaurants along the route are opening their doors earlier than usual so early-bird revelers don’t have to stress about skipping breakfast.

With more than 20 restaurants up and down Perkins Road, there’s something for even the pickiest of eaters. Check out the map below for all the locations along the parade route that have confirmed they will be open on parade day, and keep reading for additional information:


Locations are listed in order from the beginning of the route to the very end, so pick your mid-parade binge spot accordingly, and see which ones will have specials for the parade:

Garden District Coffee
2008 Perkins Road
Perfect for: A pre-parade energizer to make sure you last the whole parade, and then again for a post-parade pick-me-up if you’re feeling down from all that reveling. The coffee shop will be open 7 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday.

Duvic’s
2854 Kalurah St.
Perfect for: A different kind of beverage. Take a break from all that beer and sip on one of Duvic’s spunky martinis.
Specials: Duvic’s will open at 9 a.m. sharp with an outdoor beer truck serving unlimited draft beer and a booth dedicated to serving Irish car bombs as fast as you can drink them.

DiGiulio Brothers Italian Cafe
2903 Perkins Road
Perfect for: Chowing down on massive amounts of carbs, partly to soak up some of the alcohol and partly because it’s St. Paddy’s Day, so the carbs don’t count, right? DiGiulio Brothers will open at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Ivar’s Sports Bar & Grill
2919 Perkins Road
Perfect for: All-day reveling, complete with loaded cheese fries and decked-out hamburgers. Ivar’s will open at 7 a.m. the morning of the parade.
Specials: $10 cover for all-day live music by True Spin, Werewolf, American Kids and more, plus all-day drink specials.

George’s Restaurant
2943 Perkins Road
Perfect for: Classic Louisiana cuisine to top off all that classic Louisiana partying. George’s will open at 9 a.m. Saturday and serve a limited menu featuring all of the restaurant’s burgers, sandwiches, po-boys and finger foods. An outdoor bar will serve a variety of draft beers.

City Pork Deli & Charcuterie
2363 Hollydale Ave.
Perfect for: Snacking. Charcuterie boards are a great way to ward off hunger pangs but still leave room for more beer.
Specials: The deli is offering a variety of drink specials including $6 Parade Bombs with Tin Roof Parade Ground, Jameson and Baileys and a $5 draft beer bar featuring Chafunkta Kingfish Ale, Tin Roof Parade Ground and Michelob Ultra. Meal specials include $7 Big Pigs, $7 Big Chickens and all-day brunch.

Schlittz & Giggles
2355 Ferndale Ave.
Perfect for: Alcohol-induced pizza cravings
Specials: Schlittz will be open 8 a.m.-till for Schlittz-a-Palooza. For $5 pre-event and $10 at the door, patrons get access to an outdoor bar with a variety of drink specials and whole pizzas or pizza by the slice.

Jimmy John’s
3043 Perkins Road
Perfect for: The whole family—Jimmy John’s can whip up several simple but satisfying sandwiches in just minutes. The sandwich shop will operate during its usual Saturday hours (11 a.m.-3 a.m.) but won’t begin delivering until 6 p.m.

The Big Squeezy
3043 Perkins Road, Suite B
Perfect for: A refreshing juice or smoothie to cleanse your system before the day is over. The Big Squeezy will be open during its usual Saturday hours, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Rock-n-Sake
3043 Perkins Road, #A
Perfect for: Sushi and upbeat vibes. Rock-n-Sake will open at 9 a.m. with a private viewing patio until 1 p.m. for any patrons dining in.

Pinetta’s European Restaurant
3056 Perkins Road
Perfect for: A hearty post-parade dinner. Pinetta’s won’t be open for lunch, but if you’re lingering in the area after the parade, the European sit-down restaurant offers a homey atmosphere and wide range of classic European dishes.

Crispy Catch
3109 Perkins Road
Perfect for: Fried food. Who doesn’t love a handful of boudin balls while waiting on the parade route? The restaurant will open at 8 a.m. the morning of the parade for walk-up take-out orders, and the interior will open for sit-down service at 3 p.m.

Street Breads
3131 Perkins Road
Perfect for: A simple, quick meal for when you’re feeling peckish but don’t want to risk missing too many throws.
Specials: Serving Chafunkta Brewing Company’s Green Kingfish and Bayou Blaze ales all day. Street Breads will be open during its usual Saturday hours, 6:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m.

Zippy’s
3155 Perkins Road
Perfect for: Margaritas and a massive plate of carry-out nachos to share with friends on the parade route—or to eat all by yourself. Zippy’s will open at 9 a.m. and will set up all tables and chairs outside to serve to-go food and drinks all day.

Frankie’s Dawg House
2318 Cedardale Ave.
Perfect for: Splurging in a different kind of way. It’s not often you spend hours outside the doors of a gourmet hot dog shop that sells delicacies like this ultimate breakfast hot dog. The shop is opening the doors to its snoball stand for the first time this year at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Parrain’s Seafood
3225 Perkins Road
Perfect for: A heavier meal to keep you full long-term. Parrain’s will be open during its normal Saturday hours, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

Acme Oyster House
3535 Perkins Road
Perfect for: One of those traditional, perfectly seasoned po-boys to accompany an ice-cold beer. Acme Oyster House will operate during its usual hours, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday.

Galatoire’s Bistro
3535 Perkins Road, #400
Perfect for: Having an irresistible pulled-pork po-boy as one last splurge before St. Paddy’s Day is over and the hangover guilt sets in.
Specials: The bistro crafted a special St. Patrick’s Day menu that includes jambalaya, crawfish maison, pulled-pork po-boys, fried chicken tenders and more. The main dining room is closed, but the outdoor patio and bar will be open at 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and food service begins at 10 a.m. The restaurant is building a stage in the parking lot and will have live music and DJs playing from 1-6 p.m., including the Chase Tyler Band.        

La Divina
3535 Perkins Road, #360
Perfect for: Green eggs and ham—the Italian cafe will be serving a special breakfast in the St. Paddy’s Day spirit. The cafe is open for its usual Saturday hours, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.

Pei Wei
3535 Perkins Road
Perfect for: Greasy, delicious takeout. Kung pao chicken? Yes, please. Pei Wei will be open for usual hours, 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday.

Burgersmith
3613 Perkins Road
Perfect for: A different kind of burger, such as the restaurant’s brisket or lamb burgers. Burgersmith will be open for its usual Saturday hours, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

Uncle Earl’s
3753 Perkins Road
Perfect for: Non-stop partying. Uncle Earl’s will be hosting its St. Patrick’s Day music festival blowout party featuring 17th Floor, Ship of Fools and more. The bar and patio will open at 7 a.m. and music starts at 11 a.m.
Specials: With the purchase of a $20 wristband, guests get access to all-day jambalaya and burgers and a variety of drink specials.

Editor’s note: Zeeland Street Market, Rama Restaurant, Magpie Cafe, The Salad Shop, Juban’s and the Perkins Road Cupcake Allie location will be closed the day of the parade.
