I’ve lived in Baton Rouge for almost four years but have never experienced a Curbside burger.
I normally receive shocked looks and gasps for that statement from locals who remember owner Nick Hufft from his beginnings slinging burgers out of the Curbside Burgers food truck. So, I knew when Hufft opened the doors to his brick-and-mortar restaurant this month, it was finally time I tried one of his burger creations.
Walking into the new Curbside location at 4158 Government St., the eatery was packed with guests at almost every table. Between the tables inside, the bar seats and the outside patio, finding a space to sit wasn’t hard—but still make sure to grab your ideal spot quickly.

Here’s how it works: You order at the counter and the servers bring your food to the table. The burgers sit atop Curbside printed paper in a small metal tray. Fries or tots in size small or large can be ordered alongside every burger. There are also “Boozie Shakes” on the menu.
I decided to try the Brian 3.0, a burger with pork belly preserves, blue cheese and fried onion strings. This burger is a Curbside classic—all the flavors meshed well together with the creamy blue cheese, the smoky pork preserves and the crunchy onion strings atop a delicious burger patty. Curbside’s burger buns are toasted and glazed with butter, which further adds to the decadent flavors.
My dining partner ordered the GC2, a burger with green chili relish, bacon, pepperjack fondue, Fritos and cholula mayo. This burger was a winner in flavor and texture with the zesty relish and the crunchy Fritos being the highlights.

Other burgers on the menu seem to bring even more interesting combinations like mushrooms and onion jam, a Parmesan crisp and garlic mayo or—another popular favorite—the K.G.B.’s fried egg and praline bacon.
From the looks of it, Curbside is Mid City’s newest attraction and will continue to be as Hufft adds to the menu with other flavorful burgers.
Curbside is open Mondays through Wednesdays 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays 11 a.m.-midnight and Sundays 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
