Fast break: Sizzling fajitas at Marina’s Mexican Grill

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed Marina’s address as 6521 Perkins Road. It’s at 6251 Perkins Road. 225 Dine regrets this error.

Formerly Oscar’s Pizza & Ice Cream and then briefly Souga Pizza Factory, the building that now houses Marina’s Mexican Grill dishes out a new type of fare on Perkins Road.

Marina’s opened in November 2015 after a year-long hiatus from its previous location on Bennington Avenue.

The restaurant is dark-lit but homey, and patrons have the option to sit wherever they want. The menu features classic Mexican dishes like quesadillas, enchiladas and tacos, but Marina’s also offers signature dishes such as La Bamba, a tamale topped with chili con carne and beef or pork carnitas.

I chose the chicken fajita plate, which came out just as expected—warm flour tortillas, fresh guacamole and pico de gallo, and a sizzling, smoking plate of thinly sliced chicken, onions and bell peppers.

I tend to get fajitas at every Mexican restaurant I visit, so I have a lot to compare Marina’s to. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and the guacamole was some of the best I’ve had. Put together, every bite had the perfect combination of flavors.

The portion sizes at Marina’s don’t disappoint, either. The menu lists fajitas for one and fajitas for two, but the single serving could have fed me twice.

Marina’s is a great, quick lunch spot for those looking to diverge from the everyday sandwich lunch. The restaurant offers lunch specials 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Marina’s Mexican Grill is at 6251 Perkins Road and is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
