Fast Break: Sweet and savory sandwiches at Heather V’s Cafe

Tucked away in the back right corner of The Foyer on Perkins Road, Heather V’s Cafe dishes out some delicious, savory sandwiches.

I ordered the ham, fig and Havarti sandwich on toasted wheat berry bread after a long debate over that and the turkey asparagus sandwich.

Fair warning: If you aren’t a big cheese person, steer clear of the sandwiches featured at Heather V’s, because they don’t skimp. My sandwich could’ve been dubbed a “gourmet grilled cheese.”

It seemed like a dainty little sandwich until I took a bite. The bread was lightly topped with a sweet fig spread, several slices of ham and a tremendous portion of gooey Havarti cheese that oozed out as I dug in. The sandwich made for a flawless combination of sweet and salty.

My guest ordered the Nutty Vegetarian sandwich, a great gourmet option for sandwich-lovers who don’t eat meat. It comes with roasted pecans, avocado, tomato and alfalfa sprouts topped with Italian dressing and melted provolone cheese on wheat berry bread.

The cafe also serves a variety of salads and a daily soup special. The sprawling store that houses Heather V’s sells contemporary and antique artwork, furniture and knick-knacks. Patrons are free to browse while they wait for their meals. It’s a quick in-and-out lunch spot great for people working in the Perkins Road and Acadian Thruway area.

Heather V’s Cafe is at 3655 Perkins Road. The cafe is open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday- Friday.
