Where to find fall treats still suitable for Louisiana’s warm weather

Lately, every day has been the same: cool, breezy mornings that get you craving fall treats like pumpkin pies, hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls, followed by hot afternoons and warm evenings that make it impossible to enjoy any of those things.

Why should we have to wait for Louisiana weather to catch up to autumn? October is already halfway over, folks. Time to look for your favorite fall flavors in food and drinks that won’t make you sweat. Can the flavors of fall still be refreshing? Of course!

Some examples:

Bourbon Pecan Gelato

La Divina Gelateria

La Divina is kicking off the season with both regular flavors and seasonal specialities. Its bourbon pecan is a frequent feature, but the flavor’s popularity shoots up in the fall as people seek these comforting and sumptuous flavors. While you’re at it, check out La Divina’s pumpkin pie variety.

Pumpkin Punch

City Pork Brasserie & Bar

City Pork isn’t afraid to take on a pumpkin cocktail, and this one packs its titular punch with Jim Beam bourbon, pureed pumpkin, honey, cinnamon, ginger beer and sage. The restaurant’s fall cocktail menu also includes flavors of apple, caramel, cranberry, rosemary and ginger.

Applejack Rabbit

The Cove

Somewhere between summer and fall is the Applejack Rabbit, a Prohibition-era cocktail made with fresh citrus, maple syrup and apple brandy. It’s cool and smooth, but notes of apple and maple give it that put-on-a-cozy-sweater fall feeling.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Milkshake

Fat Cow

Fat Cow might be just as famous for its thick, ever-changing milkshakes as it is for burgers. During the fall months, Fat Cow brings back this wildly popular shake, complete with a whipped cream and cinnamon topping.

Chai Tea Ice Cream

La Mode Southern Craft Ice Cream

The newly launched La Mode knows that Louisiana weather means ice cream is in demand year-round, and it’s adapted to the market with fall concoctions that hit the spot. Grab a scoop of chai tea ice cream at one of its pop-ups, or order the flavor straight from the maker.

Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash

The Radio Bar

The beer list at Radio Bar expands in the autumn months to include plenty of seasonals, including this pumpkin stout from Missouri brewery Crown Valley Imperial. Take one out on the patio and pretend it’s under 60 degrees outside.

Coffee & Cream Popsicle

Rock N’ Pops

Mocha flavors make you feel like you can take on any fall morning, except for a hot one. Rock N’ Pops has the answer with a coffee and cream flavor that can be topped off with a caramel drizzle and your toppings of choice (bacon, maybe?).

Strongbow Honey & Apple Cider

The Londoner

If there’s one place to get cider in town, it’s UK-themed pub The Londoner. This particular cider, available by the bottle, is sweet but not too sweet, and frosty enough to make you feel like an apple pie could be refreshing.
