Five ways to donate to the food bank this season

In the giving mood? 225 Dine has reached out to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to get the scoop on where you can donate food.

Winn Dixie is hosting a food drive for the food bank Friday, Dec. 5, at its Prairieville location and Monday, Dec. 8, at its Coursey Boulevard location 4 p.m.-6 p.m. as part of its “Celebrate Local” event.

A food bank truck will follow St. George Fire Department’s Santa Parades Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14, to collect food from area neighborhoods. Get a full list of neighborhoods the parades will visit.

Throughout the month, the food bank will team up with Coca-Cola and participating Associated Grocers Food Stores for the Make Someone Happy Holiday Campaign, which runs through Dec. 28. Those interested can purchase a pre-packed holiday meal bag from the stores for $10. Get more information.

City Citrus will donate fruit it has harvested on Dec. 13 to the food bank as part of its First Pick Event of the season. The deadline to register as a volunteer to help City Citrus pick the fruit is Friday, Dec. 5. Get more information.

All branches of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library are hosting a special Food for Fines event, where bookworms can bring in a non-perishable, unopened food item to any library branch for donation. For each item, $1 will be waived from late fee fines. The program will run throughout December.
