Food vendors to try at the Baton Rouge Blues Festival this weekend


With the Baton Rouge Blues Festival coming this weekend, it’s time to think about one of the best parts: the food.

So as you take in the performances of local blues legends such as Buddy Guy and Kenny Neal on Saturday and Sunday, here’s what you’ll find to eat at the nearby food booths and food trucks:

Any O’ Cajun
This Louisiana pop-up kitchen and catering company specializes in Cajun and Creole cuisine. Popular menu items include fried catfish, pulled pork with rolls and grillades and grits. 

Dat’z Italian
An authentic wood-fired pizza mobile service based in Walker. Dat’z Italian’s offerings include a muffaletta pizza, kale and Italian sausage and the Dat’z a Sunrise breakfast pizza with a sunny-side-up egg and your choice of meat on a bed of spinach, pesto and mozzarella.

Rösch Bakehaus
A local artisan bakery specializing in small batch, handmade traditional German pretzels. Some special batches the Baton Rouge baker has created recently included sweet cornbread pretzel rolls with chives and cracklins and dark chocolate pretzels with dried orange peel and lavender salt. The bakery recently posted images of a muffaletta-stuffed pretzel on its Facebook page in preparation for Blues Festival this weekend.  

Chet’s Grill & Cheesesteaks
A Lafayette vendor specializing in dress-your-own Philly cheesesteaks and Cajun sausage sandwiches that owner Chet Marelli describes as “the best in the business.”

Barbosa’s BBQ
A Baton Rouge caterer bringing Texas-style barbecue to south Louisiana. One special dish: b
urnt ends atop braised greens and cheese grits with house-made pickled onions on top and Louisiana cane syrup drizzled around the edge.

MRTN Ventures
This Mandeville catering company specializes in Cajun and Creole fair and festival foods. Some MRTN specialties are crawfish quesadillas, alligator sausage and potato ribbons.

The Frying Station (no website available)
A vendor specializing in everything fried. Items include fried chicken wings, fried catfish and fried shrimp. 

Cool Tiger Ice
A Baton Rouge sno-ball vendor with more than 50 flavors, from margarita to Jamaican punch, and sugar free options. Their motto: “
If it’s at least 60 degrees and sunny outside, you can enjoy a sno-ball from Cool Tiger Ice.”

Rouge A Roux
A Baton Rouge-based food truck and caterer serving authentically crafted Cajun cuisine. Some fan favorites include the pulled pork sandwich, classic burger and boudin treats.

Dempsey’s
This Capital Region restaurant serves up Louisiana favorites, from red beans and rice to jambalaya. Popular choices include crab cakes with remoulade sauce and the seafood-stuffed potato.

Taco Sisters
A Lafayette food truck and caterer making fresh and fast tacos with smoked Gulf tuna, smoked Gulf shrimp or savory meats and poultry. Brisket burritos, veggie tacos and salads are also available.

Touch of Cajun (no website available)
A vendor serving Cajun specialties such as crawfish bread, crab cakes with crawfish cream sauce, jambalaya and a special six-inch sausage po-boy. 

Leroy’s Lipsmackin’ Lemonade
Lemonade created by Westminster Elementary first grader Leroy Hayward, a budding entrepreneur dedicated to building a viable, long-term lemonade business.
