New breakfast and lunch spot coming to downtown in October

What could be better than breakfast in a bowl? A scrambled egg bowl, waffle bowl, cinnamon roll bowl—those are hard concepts to beat.

Childhood friends Andrew Kennedy and Zack West teamed up to start Fresh Bowls. Think Salad Shop meets Subway but with these Baton Rougeans’ own twist—the concept of serving “everything in a bowl.”

The café will take over the space formerly occupied by The Lobby Café at 340 Florida Blvd. It will serve breakfast, as well as lunch items such as soups, salads and baked potato bowls.

The bowls will start at a base price of around $6, with extra charges per topping. All the toppings and ingredients will be in a display case at the serving counter, and patrons can add as much or as little as they want.

Fresh Bowls will also have a small bakery and coffee selection.

The menu isn’t entirely finished yet, Kennedy says, but some interesting options are in the works.

“The idea is to keep it simple and clean,” he says. “We didn’t want to complicate everything, but we still want to please everyone.”

The plans for Fresh Bowls have only been in the works for about four months, but Kennedy says they have a target opening date of Oct. 12.

“It’s been a quick process,” Kennedy says. “It’s not something we’ve been planning for years. It was very spontaneous, and we’re just putting it together as we go.”

Once open, Fresh Bowls’ hours will be 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Extended hours are a possibility down the road, Kennedy says.

He says they’re even considering serving late-night breakfast on the weekends. Check out Fresh Bowls’ Facebook page for updates and more info.
