Downtown Baton Rouge has been waiting years for its own grocery store. This month, Matherne’s Market opened at 440 N. Third Street. The 16,000-square-foot store is the first full-service supermarket in the downtown area in 50 years. The store includes a bakery, small meat market, sushi and salad bars and a big selection of wine and beer. During lunch, Matherne’s also offers plate lunch specials such as fried chicken and shrimp fettuccine.
Matherne’s downtown was set to open late last year. However, the store’s management and owners wanted to get the kinks and logistics all worked out before opening to the public last week. For more information, click here.
