Pumpkins are back at the farmers market in September

While it may not feel like fall yet, you’ll start seeing orange popping up everywhere at the Red Stick Farmers Market in September. Pumpkins, nectarines and satsumas will all return this month.

Farmers market regulars will see the return of juicy, fresh watermelon this month, in addition to squash, sweet potatoes and tomatoes. Mustard greens, collard greens, snap beans, cantaloupes and cucumber are all still in season as well.

Not sure exactly how to cook all the tasty produce you bought? Check out 225 Dine’s recipes or BREADA’s recipes page.

Customers can also peruse the Baton Rouge Arts Market in conjunction with the Red Stick Farmers Market this Saturday for handmade wares from local makers.

The Red Stick Farmers Market is open Thursdays 8 a.m.-noon at Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Saturdays 8 a.m.-noon at Fifth and Main streets.
