Ruby Slipper to open first Baton Rouge location this spring

There’s about to be a hot new contender in the Baton Rouge brunch game: New Orleans favorite The Ruby Slipper Café has announced plans to expand into Baton Rouge.

The famed breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant released a statement Tuesday, Jan. 31, that it would be taking over the now-vacant home of Pei Wei in the Acadian Village Shopping Center at 3535 Perkins Road and aiming to be up and running by spring. This marks the sixth Louisiana opening for Ruby Slipper, with sister locations in New Orleans and Raceland as well as Orange Beach, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida.

Owner Jennifer Weishaupt says she looks forward to making the move into the Capital City, especially since the new location gives her staff 3,400 square feet to work with. The team will be bringing their full menu with them, including signature dishes like Eggs Cochon, BBQ shrimp and grits and bananas foster pain perdu.

“Acadian Village Shopping Center is a great addition to the Baton Rouge area, and The Ruby Slipper Café is happy to be part of it,” Weishaupt tells 225. “We’re excited to continue to grow in such a vibrant part of the Louisiana community.”

The Ruby Slipper Café joins other fresh culinary faces in the Perkins/Acadian area such as The Overpass Merchant and Kalurah Street Grill in breathing new life into one of Baton Rouge’s most active shopping and dining hubs.
