Summer Sippin’: Frozen rosé, plus where to find other adult slushies in Baton Rouge

When you’re a kid, the perfect fix for those 100-degree days is a slushie, in all its stain-your-tongue-red, gas-station glory.

When you’re an adult, the perfect fix is a chilled glass of wine.

Bistro Byronz combines the two in its Rosé Freeze, a frozen pink wine drink garnished with a cherry.

A daiquiri-style machine hums quietly behind the bar, spinning the Rosé Freeze alongside the restaurant’s other signature frozen drink, the Vodka Freeze (a lemon-lime vodka cocktail reminiscent of a boozy frozen Sprite).

While the Vodka Freeze is a longtime menu staple, the Rosé Freeze is a newcomer. Ben Sherman, general manager at Bistro Byronz Willow Grove, created the drink late this spring after seeing rosé soar in national popularity.

Now, Bistro Byronz sells about 200-300 Rosé Freezes per month at the Willow Grove location. The demand has been strong enough to earn the drink a permanent spot on the menu at each of the restaurant’s locations.

The icy cocktail combines the bite of the crisp, fruity wine with the refreshing texture and temperature of a slushie. It’s available in two sizes: petite (8 ounces) and large (16 ounces).

The only thing that would make the Rosé Freeze better? Sipping it poolside.

But Bistro Byronz has already thought of that, too: It sells the drink by the gallon, so you can bring it home with you and sip it wherever you like.

Other Baton Rouge adult slushies to try:

Bistro Byronz’ frozen mimosa: During brunch, the restaurant also serves frozen mimosa carafes for $20.

The Overpass Merchant: The restaurant’s signature cocktail is a frozen Moscow mule made with ginger beer and Jameson.

The Rum House: The Caribbean taqueria has plenty of frozen margaritas to choose from, but if you want something different, go for the Ponder’s Shipwreck. Half frozen margarita and half Sol lager, it’s like drinking a citrusy frozen beer.

Olive or Twist and Beausoleil: Boozy snowballs, anyone? Both bars serve alcohol-spiked shaved ice; read more about these treats here.
