In the summer months, fruit flavors tend to dominate cocktail menus and smoothie shops, but there’s something to be said for the cooling power of something a little creamier. Remember the sticky sundaes of your childhood? The creamy confections from the ice cream truck? Sweaty people of Baton Rouge, don’t fear the dairy.
Dairy comes into play in one of our favorite Louisiana-brewed beers this summer: Gnarly Barley’s Korova Milk Porter with Peanut Butter. The specially-brewed version of the Hammond brewery’s popular porter is one of the main events at the annual Galatoire’s Bistro Louisiana Beer Dinner on June 23.
The sweet porter combines coffee and chocolate notes with peanut butter to create a sumptuous beer that’s ideal for kicking it on the porch with an ice cream sandwich. We recommend drinking it slow—it’s smooth but quite rich, like all great desserts should be.

The beer will be paired with a dessert course of a chocolate and peanut butter terrine at the beer dinner, which will also feature craft beers from NOLA Brewing, Bayou Teche Brewing, Parish Brewing Company, Great Raft Brewing and Southern Craft Brewing Company. If you’re interested in giving it a try, call for reservations before seats fill up.
