Summer Sippin’: Great milkshake options in Baton Rouge

It’s summertime, and you know what that means. The annual onslaught of heat advisories, of course. According to The National Weather Service, Baton Rouge and all of south Louisiana has been issued a heat advisory again today, with a heat index of temperatures from 105 to 115 degrees.

With temperatures this crazy, you’ve got to cool off somehow, so why not do so with a tasty, refreshing milkshake?

When it comes to the Baton Rouge milkshake scene, which is totally a thing, Fat Cow is one of the best in the business. With a new featured flavor every month, the restaurant offers up much more than your typical vanilla and chocolate shakes.

We checked out several of their milkshake options, which are sure to bring all the boys—and girls—to the yard.

Fat Cow's S'mores, Oreo and Bananas Foster milkshakes

Bananas Foster:
This scrumptious shake is exactly as advertised—bananas foster blended into a milkshake, the Fat Cow way. Each shake is a riff on the classic dessert blended with Creole cream cheese ice cream and topped with a dash of cinnamon, making every sip a blast of all that we love about the down-home concoction.

S’mores:
July’s shake of the month at Fat Cow turns traditional campfire sweets into a flat-out fantastic shake. Featuring chocolate, toasted marshmallow and graham cracker crumbles, the S’mores Shake is off-the-charts delicious. Plus, it looks great with chocolate streaks going down the sides of the cup.

Tiramisu:
This especially delectable shake consists of Creole cream cheese ice cream blended with a shot of espresso and cocoa powder and served with a lady finger. It’s a perfect dessert for both the coffee-obsessed and non-coffee drinkers. What more could milkshake lovers ask for?

Check out these other shake options and alternatives around Baton Rouge:

• Mooyah: Milkshake flavors ranging in everything from mint chocolate chip to strawberry banana

• Smashburger: Try their chocolate Oreo or Nutter Butter hand-spun milkshakes.

• Burgersmith’s Root Beer Float: Abita root beer made with all-natural Louisiana cane sugar and two scoops of locally crafted all-natural vanilla ice cream, garnished with a reed of sugar cane

• Or try the sweet Indian drink lassi. Indian restaurants in Baton Rouge, such as Bay Leaf Indian Cuisine, Al Noor, Curry n Kabab and others, have great options for the traditional beverage lassi. It’s a shake-like blend of yogurt, milk, water, spices and sometimes fruit. Take your pick of sweet, salty or even mango lassi.
