Triumph Kitchen chef Chris Wadsworth to appear on Food Network

Chef Chris Wadsworth spends most of his days with disadvantaged and struggling teens, teaching them how to cook and work in the restaurant industry. As the leader of Triumph Kitchen, Wadsworth’s first priority is the Baton Rouge community, but it doesn’t mean he can’t still have some fun on national television.

This Sunday night, Nov. 15, you can catch the chef on a new episode of Guy’s Grocery Games—also known as Triple G—on Food Network. The show, hosted (of course) by Food Network personality Guy Fieri, traps chefs in a grocery store and then against each other in three timed rounds of shopping and cooking to fit special twists and challenges.

The episode was actually filmed about nine months ago, but Wadsworth is still excited to see how it all plays out on screen. A veteran of the 11th season of Top Chef, Wadsworth went into the competition comfortable with the cameras, and he says he’s proud of his performance.

“I feel like I did great. I stayed true to what I believe in and the food that I like to cook,” Wadsworth says. “I stayed true to Louisiana cuisine and representing Louisiana cooking.”

Wadsworth has only positive reviews of Guy Fieri, whose bombastic television personality can be polarizing for some viewers.

“As a chef, you hear a lot about Guy,” Wadsworth says. “A lot of times, you hear that he’s not a chef or that he’s a little over the top. But I can tell you, in person, he’s an amazing person. He’s extremely supportive of what I do with Triumph Kitchen and what I do with kids and at-risk teens. He’s a very, very nice guy.”

The chef has much more than Food Network on the brain right now, though. Aside from his work with Triumph Kitchen, Wadsworth is deep in construction on Government Street for his own restaurant, Goûter, with his eye on a Dec. 1 opening. This Sunday, Nov. 15, 5-8 p.m., Wadsworth will be raising money for Triumph Kitchen with the All Fired Up & Kicking Ash Block Party in Mid City, featuring sweets by Cupcake Allie as well as wild boar, venison and fish barbecued with City Pork’s chef Ryan Andre.

Following the barbecue, Wadsworth will host a free screening of his episode of Guy’s Grocery Games open to all. No matter where you watch, don’t miss the episode Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. on Food Network.
